Minute 55 - Family Success Centers for Welfare Recipients |
Taxpayer Minute 55 Quick Facts:
--New Jersey has remained #1in the worst roads in the nation category.
--A recent Reason Foundation
report found that New Jersey has the worst roads in the nation.
--We have one of the smallest road systems, yet we spend more than
Texas or California.
--Road repair in New Jersey costs more than 10 times the
average of other states.
--That works out to $1.8 million per mile of state road. Yes, $1.8
million per mile!
--Why is it so high? For every pothole filled, the state must pay
sky high union wages becaues all state road work must be done with
project labor agreements.

giving the same high rating to these bonds that they gave Enron just
before they defaulted.

52 - Four Years to Buy Trash Cans?
 |
Taxpayer Minute 52 Quick Facts:
--How many New Jersey bureaucrats does it take to buy a bear-proof
trash can?
--When the NJ Department of Environmental Protection offered to buy
bear resistant trash cans for West Milford, here is what it took.
--4 years
Several government departments, including a Grants office, Public
Affairs office, and more.
--Many meetings to discuss the cans, several studies on what type of
can, years of writing and rewriting specifications, studies on who
should get the cans, and even studies on whether or not the cans would
even prevent bears.
--This is not a story, it is true.
--Taxpayers should not be taxed to pay bureaucrats in Trenton to
create plans on how to buy trash cans.

Minute 46-Small Towns |
Taxpayer Minute 46 Quick Facts:
--Some of New Jersey’s greatest treasures are found in our state’s
small towns and tight knit communities.
--Trenton’s central planners have set their sights on every one of our
neighborhoods.
--They are scheming to force 100,000 taxpayer subsidized, low income
housing units into every town in New Jersey. This will destroy
neighborhoods, lower property values, and raise property taxes even
more!
--One Mayor has said NO to the central planners and taken a stand.
Mayor Gerard P. Scharfenberger of Middletown has forged a Council
resolution to oppose this radical housing scheme.

politicians are afraid or unwilling to stand up to Trenton’s growing

Taxpayer Minute 42 Quick Facts:
--In 1966, New Jersey had the 3rd highest property taxes in the
country, but NO sales or income taxes.

tax! Now, at 7%, the sales tax is the highest in the nation and there
has been no property tax relief.
--In 1976, Trenton told us that a new 2.5% income tax would cut
property taxes. (Notice a pattern here?). That income tax has steadily
risen to the current 9% and property taxes are as high as ever.
